Places visited in Austria

Mirabell Garden is one of Europe's best. Its colourful geometrically designed garden is visited by many tourist from all over the world.  Many statues inspired by greek gods and goddesses could be seen throughout the park.  The garden was featured in the famous classic movie, The Sound of Music.

Terrace steps at  the Small Parterre of the Mirabell Garden was featured in the movie, The Sound of Music.
The terrace steps were used as a hopping scale by Maria and the VonTrapp children.

Grand Parterre.  It is centered by a fountain and surrounded by four mythological statues representing the four elements of nature:  earth, water, fire and air.

The sculpture represents the element of Earth.  Abduction of Proserpina by Pluto, sculpted by Ottavio Mosto (1690).
Pluto was the god of the underworld and abducted Proserpina, took her to the underworld and later became his wife.


Paris kidnapping Helen, sculpted by Ottavio Mosto (1690).  The sculpture represents the element of water.
Helen was the most beautiful in the late bronze age world and married to the King of Sparta.
Paris was a prince of Troy who fell in love with Helen, despite her marital status, during the diplomatic visit of the Troy's to Sparta.
He wasted no time and kidnapped Helen.  Other version of the myth, Helen and Paris eloped.
War between Sparta and Troy started.


The sculpture represents the element of fire.  Aeneas fleeing Troy with his father, sculpted by Ottavio Mosto

Hercules crushing Antheus by Ottavio Mosto (1690).  The sculpture represents the element of air

DWARF PARK


Dwarf Gnome Park (Zwerglgarten)



In the movie The Sound of Music, the VonTrapp kids patted the head of this statue.









These statues were modelled after real life dwarves.  The statues were made of white Untersberg marble and dates back in the 18th century.
