The City of Bridges, VENICE. Such a marvelous place, wish we could have stayed longer. Despite our struggles crossing the bridges, climbing up and down with our heavy luggage; can't help to be amazed and admire this city which was built on water. Picturesque marble old palaces and churches facing the Grand Canal... The beautiful islands of the Venetian Lagoon... The only way to see all these beauty of Venice is by boat: Vaporetto, Water taxi or Gondola.
Piazza San Marco/ St. Mark's Square with the Basilica and its Campanille, Venice Italy |
Piazza San Marco or St Mark's Square in english is the main public square of Venice. On the east side is the St Mark's Basilica, the cathedral church in Venice. Standing freely on the right corner of the square is the St. Mark's Campanille, the bell tower of St. Mark's Basilica (323 ft. tall).

Flock of pigeons at St Mark's Square, Venice, Italy |
St Mark's Square has been a lure for pigeons that are fed by tourists for photo opportunity. The presence of the birds could damage the old architectures, the feeding was actually banned. When we were there though, a few bystanders offer pigeon's food to tourists. I knew it would cost us, I ignored them. For some reasons, the eldest took the food and was happy feeding the pigeons. Thereafter, as expected, the man was asking for payment. I gave one euro and he asked for more. When he kept on insisting, I could not help to raise my voice when I told him that was enough. We then left.

From Florence, we arrived Venice very late at night on 10 June 2015. We were booked at Venice Suite Apartment, San Marco. Stefano was very accommodating, he had arranged for our pick up at the train station. Chiarra was already there waiting for us when we got off the train. Chiarra helped us to purchase the 48 hour Vaporetto Pass. For some reason, the machine was neither accepting cash nor international cards, Chiarra used her card and we just paid her in cash. I have attached further details in regard to the travel pass.

Calle Larga XXII Marzo near St Mark's Square, Venice, Italy |
Calle Larga XXII Marzo is a street in Venice known for luxury/branded shops such as Chanel, Gucci and Ferragano It was still early when we were on this street, most shops were still closed. The street was named after the historical date, 22 March 1848, when the city of Venice was under the anti-liberal Austrial rule. Down the street and a canal to cross would take you to the Chiesa di San Moise (Church of San Moise)

The patron for the church's architectural design, Vincenzo Fini, put his monument on the facade to display his recent addition to the Venetian Aristocracy.

Small canals and bridges and hotels we had passed by on our way to Fondamente Nove A station to take the Vaporetto to Burano. Venice is like a maze of small streets and bridges but with Mr. Google Map, we had reached our destination. It was a long walk, over half an hour.

Lido Beach, Venice Italy |
Summer was approaching when we were at Lido de Venezia. The place was not yet crowded. Lido is a small island with an inviting beach. The beach is 10 minutes walk from the station at regular pace.
Lido beach is a relaxing seaside resort in Venice. It is where tourists go to escape the crowded main island. The beach is free for all. The place is quiet in winter but comes summer, the sandy beaches and its shallow water is busy. The restaurants and pizzerias around are open year round.
