Spanish Steps Rome, Italy/ Family Travelogue 06~08 June 2015

Arrived a bit late at FCO from Santorini.  Our pre arranged transfer was there carrying a paper board with our name.  We paid 65Euros direct to the driver/ owner of the car.  We had stayed at Ripetta 25 for 2 nights booked thru Expedia.  The apartment was  walking distance to most of the attractions such as the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and the Vatican City.  We avoided taking the Metros so not to encounter the notorious pickpockets.  We walked most and only once we took a cab.

Our first night, we left the girls in the apartment, walked around and got something to eat.  We  actually took long, the girls sent messages reminding we were supposed to get dinner.  It was past 6pm, most of the shops were closing.  We were not able to buy local data sim on that day, we were using our data roam.

Italian Pepperoni pizza

First pizza we had in Rome.

Spanish steps (Piazza di Spagna) was so near, I felt beyond happiness and could not believed I was at one of the most visited places in Rome.

I was on the right, so happy sitting on this famous stairways joining the other tourists.  I guess locals were then at home having peaceful evening away from the everyday overwhelming visitors of Rome.

Piazza di Spagna
Piazza di Spagna is the famous square at the bottom of the Spanish steps.  Nearby is the column of the Immaculate Conception of Virgin Mary

Spanish steps and the Fontana della Barcaccia
The Spanish steps is a monumental stairway of 135 steps that starts at Piazza di Spagna (the base) up to Trinita dei Monti where we could see the  then undergoing renovation, the church of Trinita dei Monti.

While walking on our first night, these leather bags got our attention.  Apparently, designer bags model.  We asked our nieces in the Philippines if they were interested.

More photos taken at the Spanish steps on the second day of our visit in Rome.  We had been walking around and had hanged out at Spanish steps before we had our dinner.

Fontana della Barcaccia (Foutain fo the ugly boat)
Fontana della Barcaccia or the Fountain of the ugly boat was credited to the father the famous Bernini.  It was built between 1627~29.  The fountain is located at the bottom of the Spanish steps and in the middle of the Piazza di Spagna.

Opposite the Spanish steps is the Via dei Condotti, the most expensive street in Rome.  Most of the designer brands shops were located in this area such Hermes, LV, Gucci, Prada...
