continued from the statues of Sir Stamford Raffles at the North Boat Quay
Before we exited to the Cavenagh bridge from the Victoria Theatres and Memorial Hall Building, we checked out first the Asian Civilisations Museum. We have not been inside yet... soon.
Asian Civilisations Museum preserves the cultural heritage of Asia especially the Singaporeans' ancestral heritage and includes the Southeast Asia, India and the Islamic World.

This building was completed in 1867 and previously served as a courthouse and later became Government Offices.
The Adjacent square was named Empress Place in 1907 in honour of Britain's Queen Victoria, who was also the Empress of India.
The building was converted to Empress Place Museum in 1989 and became home to the Asian Civilisations Museum in 2003.

We just finished the trail of the famous sites around the mouth of Singapore River. We started from place where the buildings shown on the left are situated
We came from Raffles Place MRT. The Cavenagh Road is just few meters on foot to the right.
Across the Cavenagh bridge is the Elgin Bridge going upstream. We continued to the left to the Boat Quay Restaurants that lead us to the Elgin bridge. Latter connects the South Boat Quay to the North Boat Quay

Next to the Cavenagh bridge is the Historical Fullerton Hotel, a five star hotel at the south bank of the mouth of Singapore River. Fullerton Hotel was previously the General Post Office Building. I will write a separate post about the history of the Fullerton Building. We went inside to view the Heritage Gallery. The hotel was still in Christmas mode.

The Red Pillar Box |
The Red Pillar box at the Fullerton Heritage Gallery serves as a legacy of the British colonial era in Singapore. There are only three operational Red Pillar Post boxes in the country. One at the Post Bar of the Fullerton Hotel and the other one is at the entrance of the Singapore Philatelic Museum.
