Mt Fuji and its formed five lakes are within the border of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park. The park covers 474sq mi also includes Hakone, the Izu Peninsula and the Izu Islands.
Lake Yamanaka is the largest in surface and highest in elevation among the five lakes formed from ancient eruption of Mt. Fuji. Kawaguchiko is the most popular though. Motosolu is seen at the 1000 yen bill. Saiko, Shojiko and Motosoku have same surface elevation which confirms the three originally one lake and were just divided by another eruption.
Lake Yamanaka is popular of water recreational and on fine weather, you could have a very nice view of both Lake Yamanaka and Mt. Fuji at Hirano.
Unfortunately, on the day of our visit, our very first visit to the Yamanakako was snowy. Apparently, Mt Fuji was no where to be seen, hiding...covered by snow.
On a clear day, the best to capture Mt Fuji and Lake Yamanaka. Latter was added to the World Heritage List in 2013 as part of the Fujisan Cultural Site.
Lake Yamanaka is popular for its water recreational. Swan Lake cruise is one of the activities.
Freezing to death though, my daughter still took photos of the swans.
Lake Yamanaka is a home to a flock of swans, real swans. These flirty swans follow you around and we were a bit worried to get pecked. The largest lake is also known as Swan Lake. Most of the boats cruisin' around the lake are in the shape of swans.
There was nothing to do, we were planning to wait for the bus that could take us back to Fujisan station or the Kawaguchiko station. We went back to the 2nd flr of the building opposite the lake, Kaba Cafe, We approached the ladies selling the transport tickets. After they told us the time the bus to Kawaguchiko station comes, I purchased two tickets. I felt a bit glad, we did not have to go back to the Fujisan station and did not have to take the Fujikyu train to Kawaguchiko station. I was planning to reschedule our ticket back to Shinjuku station. The schedule I purchased earlier was 8pm, had not snowfall we could go around Lake Kawaguchiko and had taken at least two of the crazy rides at Fuji Q highlands.
Then a Keio bus arrived. I asked the cashier if it was to Shinjuku station. I requested for the change schedule of my Keio ticket and added a few yens. I did not bother to return my ticket to Kawaguchiko station amounting to 1400 yen (approx) I just purchased few minutes ago, I was so happy we got a direct bus. Unfortunately though, we were seated at the very last, next to the toilet, sigh!

I took photos while on the way to Kawaguchiko station from Asahigaoka. A few passengers were waiting at Kawaguchiko, no way for us to occupy the vacant seats.
More passengers were waiting at Fuji Q highlands and on the next 3 stops.
Arrived at the busiest station in Tokyo, Shinjuku. We went to the Odakyu office and purchased Hakone FreePass for our Hakone trip on Thursday, 16Mar '16. I was not able to take photo of our freepass, I could show you the one we had in 2014.

Our favourite, Tempura tendon. We had this dish for four times during this 2016 visit. We had it first at Tempura Tendon Tenya, Akihabara station. Second was this meal. Third at Gora, Hakone and the 4th one was on the last day, at the
