Victoria Peak Hong Kong/ Family Travelogue January 2008

Victoria Peak, locally called as The Peak, is the highest mountain on Hong Kong island with an elevation of 552m.  The Peak is a major attraction in Hong Kong offers fantastic views of the city and the surrounding islands.  There are two adjacent malls up there:  Peak Tower and Peak Galleria.

Our visit to Hong Kong in 2008, from 04 Jan to 08 Jan.  We came from the Philippines by Cebu Pacific airlines.  After we had checked in at Hong Kong Disney Hollywood Hotel, we went to Victoria Peak.

The Disney Resort is in Lantau Island and the transport means to Victoria Peak is in Central. The approximate distance between the Lantau Island and Central is  35kms.  From hotel, we hopped on the Disney shuttle bus to the resort.  There is a  monorail serving from Disney Resort to Sunny Bay Station, the Disneyland Resort line.  Latter is the world's first metro line designed to service the theme park.

At Sunny Bay Station, we took the Tung Chung line bound Central Station.  Peak Tram lower terminus is 12 to 15 minutes on foot from Central Station.  Or you could take the Bus 15C to the lower terminus.

There are a few ways to get to the peak, We opted the 8-minute iconic way to reach Victoria Peak despite the long queue purchasing the pricey ticket which was over an hour.  No regrets though, the experience was really amazing.  The tram goes up a steep hill and almost vertically.  Good views if seated on the right side.

Our visit in 2010, we took a cab from Aberdeen to the Peak to save time, Our flight back was in the evening on the same day.  During our 2014 visit, we took the City Bus 15  (without the C) at the exchange square bus station up to the Peak and it is way cheaper than the cab fare and the tram. HK9.80 and half price for children,  much less queue as well.  Bus ride though takes at least 40 minutes all the way to the Peak itself.  Nevertheless, an interesting route with lots to see:  from the tall buildings in the busy city to the peaceful countryside.
