Santorini Greece/ Family Travelogue 05~06 June 2015

We  have so much of this incredibly fascinating island.  We have shared earlier our sailing experience. Santorini is really a must to visit when in Greece.  Check out the uncommon but beauteous  landscape and buildings such as the blue-domed churches.  It may not be appealing  to a few though, we love the simplicity of this place.

We had arrived Santorini before midnight on 04 June 2015 from Athens via Ryan Air.  It was just a 30 minute flight.  We had arranged for an airport transfer (enough for our 4 big luggage and 2 small)  thru our hotel.  We paid direct to the driver, EUR20.

We had stayed at Caldera Butterfly Villas for 2 nights.  The villa was very near the airport and the seaport and 40 minute on foot / 5 minute drive to Fira.  Rate was reasonable and the place was acceptable. The villa has connections to some tour agencies and car/ATV rentals.  It has an acceptable-sized pool and considered three star hotel,  the views from this place could somehow justify our superlative descriptions for Santorini.

Our first day, we walked to the main centre of Fira after breakfast.  You'll find most of the restaurants in this place and there is also a grocery store, Carrefour.  Fira is most known for its nightlife.    On our way back to villa, it was getting warm, we hailed a cab and paid EUR10.

At 3pm, we were picked up for the Sunset Sailing tour.  We booked this tour in advance.  We were all adults though (except for the then 13 year old youngest), we opted for a quiet evening to recharge for the next day's activities.

The second day, we went to Oia by ATV in the morning.  More picturesque views from this place and the best for Sunset.  Main Pedestrians, towers and terraces in Oia are crowded comes sunset watching hours.

Our flight to Rome was at 4:10pm and we arrived Rome at 5:25pm, 2 hours and 15mins travel- Rome was one hour earlier.

waiting for our flight from Santorini to Rome.  We took the Vuelling Airlines.  That was the only airline then with direct flight to Rome. Just few weeks or days after our visit,  Easyjet started to fly direct to Rome from this beautiful island.

We were all set for a 6 day stay in Italy:  Rome, Florence, Sienna, San Gimignano, Pisa, Tuscany and of course the must to visit when in Italy, Venice.  We are so excited to share our visits to the Vatican City, Museums with the famous artists such as Michelangelo, the historical buildings around and the oil painting like of these places.

  3. little picturesque coloured houses and a medieval, neo-Classical mixture of architecture set among the gentle hills of the west bank. It is famous for its historic Castle Hill featuring the Royal Palace, museums and galleries, St Matthias Church and the ramparts of Fisherman's Bastion. Budapest flat
