We just got back from a 5-day holiday in the Kanto Region of Japan. It was a week school holiday in Singapore, I took my youngest daughter to Tokyo. We were the only two, from the family of four, flew to the Land of Rising Sun. We had stayed at Hotel MyStays Ochanamizu. 5 minutes on foot to Akihabara and few minutes walk to metro/subway stations: Awajicho, Ochanamizu and Akahibara.
It is very important you have a phone with data or and pocket wifi. Transportation system in Japan is the craziest (for me) and even locals depend on their phone when finding the nearest station they are not used to take. Google map and Hyperdia were our companions during our stay in this country.
My daughter had been to school camp on 12Mar and was home at 2pm. Our flight was 2am the following day 13Mar. We departed at Changi Airport via JAL and arrived Haneda Airport at 9:30am. Excited though, I was so stressed due to few days before I was clearing pending works and before we left I cooked few dishes for my husband and the eldest' dinner while we were away. The cooked food was stored to the chiller part of the fridge and they just re heated in the microwave at consumption.

Upon arrival, we topped-up our Suica card 10,000 yen each. We purchased these cards during our Japan trip two years ago. Then we went up to the 3rd floor to collect the pocket wifi we had rented.
While on our way to collect the pocket wifi, I saw a shop at the 3rd flr renting pocket wifi. Likewise, Hotel Mystays Ochanamizu offered also pocket wifi rental. I would not opt the latter though, I need the internet from airport for directions to the city.
I was considering at first buying the travel pass. But it would just limit the train lines we would be taking so we just used the Suica card and we were charged as per used. For the five days, we had spent more or less 5000 yen for the transportation.

Through the Hyperdia website, we checked how to go to Akihabara station. As shown above, we were at Haneda Airport International. In Haneda, there is only one International Airport and two domestic airports. I did not know that until we had the troublesome on our last day on the way by train to the Airport. I will share that to you on the very last part of these holiday blogs.
Back to Hyperdia website, on the left side is the search to and from. We keyed in: From Haneda Airport International (make sure included in the dropdown lists) and To Akihabara. Few choices shown and we chose above route. We looked for theTokyo Monorail Haneda Express bound to Hamamatsucho. The opposite side is bound to Domestic Airport 2. At the entrance gate, we placed the Suica card over the reader. Beep sounds means the card has been read. Following the direction signs, we took a lift to get to the opposite side of the railway. Upon boarding, we placed quickly our luggage on the rack, To monitor the next stop, we clicked the train timetable under the Tokyo Monorail Local for Hamamatsucho and had showed these stops:

We took the train that came first, which was the Rapid. From the International airport, there were four stops before we reached the station of Hamamatsucho.
From Hamamatsucho station, we looked for the R Keihin-Tohoku/Negishi Line bound to Omiya. Both hands handful, no way to take photos of the station unless we stopped. On the train, there was no luggage rack, Three stops to Akihabara.

At Akihabara station, the next challenge was to find the right exit to our hotel. We should exited to Akihabara Electric Town, we exited to different exit instead. I am not good following the google map, it was my daughter who took charge of it. It was actually a long walk at first with our luggage.

Tiring though, better than paying a cab from airport to the hotel for 10,000yen. Check in was 3pm, we left first our luggage, freshened up and went back to Akihabara town. We passed by the Kanda river, just right next to the hotel.
While walking we did not realize we were in the area of the Adult Maid Cosplay
My daughter shopped at the Animate store. We had our lunch at the Tempura Tendon Tenya Branch at Akihabara where we had our favourite Tempura tendon. We then went to Odaiba which I will talk about on my next post. More photos below.
