2016 Chinese New Year with Family Travelogue

Chinese culture is known for its symbolism, especially on Chinese New Year.  Oranges is one of the many that are significant during the festive season.  Orange sounds like the chinese word of wealth.  Its light colour symbolizes gold.  We find this fruit, as well as other fruits that are orange in colour and round such as tangerines, mandarin, sunkist..., displayed in houses, office and shop.  Displaying and eating these fruits said to bring abundance of happiness and prosperity.

Ours were and are back in the fridge to stay fresh.  We bought them a week ago, afraid to run out of stock as it happened in the previous years a day or two before the CNY.  Thus fresh orange juice every morning for the next few days.

We did our grocery for the CNY last week at the newly opened NTUC outlet  at Waterway Point Mall.  I have a few missed out, either my husband or one of the girls get them from the nearest store.  Before the long weekend, I made a mixture of Shanghai Lumpia roll.  On Saturday, 6 Feb 16, I cooked the Chili Prawns and marinated chicken for 24 hours and breaded on Sunday, before we went to Universal Studios Singapore. I marinated the salmon fish for 4 hours and fried.  I also cooked Beehoon noodles.  We did not have to eat all these in one day, there are only four of us.  The food are carefully stored in the chiller area of our refrigerator.
